Take-Two's MLB 2K10 launched this week, and with it the biggest prize in videogame history. The game's Pitcher vs. Hitter promotion will award a $1,000,000 prize to the first player to pitch a perfect MLB 2K10 game.
If real-life baseball, pitching the perfect videogame won't be easy. In the 100-plus-year history of Major League Baseball, only 18 perfect games (no hits, no walks, no runs) have been pitched. Most recently, Chicago White Sox Mark Buehrle pitched a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 23, 2009. MLB 2K10's Creative Director Bryan Rowles said in a statement that the potential prize would raise the in-game stakes and recreate the performance pressure that real MLB pitchers face.
"Historically, there have been 18 perfect games pitched in the MLB, and 2K Sports is in full anticipation that one savvy gamer will rise to the challenge, retire all 27 batters and win the unprecedented million dollar cash reward."
