To celebrate a decade of its crazy-successful puzzle game, PopCap is hosting 10 months of Bejeweled celebrations and contests. A copy of Bejeweled is sold every 4.3 seconds?
PopCap announced a 10-month long celebration today for its 10-year-old franchise, Bejeweled, along with a bunch of interesting tidbits about one of the world's most addictive puzzle games.
The celebrations planned include new releases in the Bejeweled series in the next 10 months, a community-wide Bejeweled Blitz competition, and a Show Your Bejeweled Love contest. Details on the new releases are upcoming, but PopCap says the Blitz competition will start in spring, and the Show Your Bejeweled Love contest starts next month.
Here's an interesting part of the press release:
Originally launched in the spring of 2000 as "Diamond Mine," ten years and more than 350 million downloads later Bejeweled has won dozens of awards, has been localized for audiences around the world and has been adapted for more than a dozen different platforms from iPhone to Xbox and even airline seatbacks. The game has actually accelerated in popularity and now sells at a rate of one copy every 4.3 seconds somewhere in the world, and has just been named The Most Popular Puzzle Game Series of the Century by the Guinness World Records 2010 Video Games Edition.
