iPhone Games of the Week: 02/7 - 02/13

Hundreds of apps and games hit the iTunes App Store each week. How many of these pocket-sized games are really worth your hard earned cash? Here is the best of the best iPhone Games of the Week.

Doom II RPG  $3.99
iD Software has been pretty active when it comes to developing for the iPhone, and Doom II RPG might be one of their best games yet. The game's battle system is technically turn-based, but players will feel like they're playing a normal Doom game while running through its 3D environments.  Doom II RPG breaks the mold created by other games in the series by transporting players to several unique environments (not just Mars/Hell) including the moon and even Earth.

There are three unique characters to choose from when starting a new save in Doom II RPG, and a single playthrough of the game will likely take most people around 8 hours. Very customizable controls and an addictive leveling-up system will make most people very happy. The game is undoubtedly the most lighthearted romp through the Doom universe out there, and buyers can expect to chuckle at the game's sense of humor. I think iD Software has done a great job with this one.

Eco Punk: Crazy Environmentalist Shooting Cars To Save The Planet!  $0.99
Eco Punk is an arcade-style game in which you control an angry skateboarding rabbit that's willing to go to very crazy extremes to cut down on environmental pollution. The core of the gameplay involves sliding your finger around on the screen to control the Eco Punk's skateboard around a small city block to pick up trash. Picking up multiple pieces of trash within a short time frame will provide bonus points, but watch out for those dirty, polluting cars! Simply touching one of the many vehicles dashing through the city streets will splatter the Eco Punk in a explosion of gore.   Eco Punk isn't a real deep, experience, but it's an enjoyable time-waster.

GT Racing: Motor Academy  $6.99
Gameloft has consistently delivering high-quality iPhone games that are mostly inspired  by popular console franchises. Their latest effort, GT Racing, takes things to a new level, effectively earning the unofficial descriptor "Gran Turismo on the iPhone." The game has over 100 licensed cars from 24 major manufacturers, and each of these cars can be driven from the viewpoints of six different cameras.

With online multiplayer, multiple modes, and a fully featured replay mode that allows players to watch, edit, and upload replays of their races to YouTube, this is a feature-packed game, even if one forgets the fact that this is an iPhone release. The game's 14 tracks can be unlocked for access in arcade mode by playing through its career mode. There are a few in-game glitches that definitely need to be fixed in an update, but Gameloft is good about supporting their games and the problems that exist now aren't too glaring, so those interested in racing sims should go ahead and give GT Racing a spin.

Military Madness: Neo Nectaris  $4.99
This game is extremely similar to Advance Wars, even down to the different unit types. The new iPhone version doesn't use the upgraded visuals from last year's XBLA, WiiWare, and PSN port of the strategy classic, but it does include the new soundtrack from those games. All 48 of the game's missions are completely new.

Space Miner: Space Orre Bustt  $4.99
Space Miner, the first game from Venan Entertainment, has been met with  praise from fans in the App Store, with 107 of the 110 people who have so far rated the game in the app store giving the game a perfect five stars. The game, which can be best summarized as "Asteroids with RPG elements," is a real blast.  A good combination of unique story missions and the ability to free roam its dozens of levels makes Space Miner one of those few games that you can sit down to play and not stop until your iPhone's battery has been run dry.
